The history of the Lithuanian Thermal Engineering Association began in 1991. The engineers’ association at that time was known as the Lithuanian Thermal Engineers’ Society.
On 8 May 1997, the Statute was registered in Vilnius, establishing the Lithuanian Thermal Engineers Association (registered office address Saulėtekio al. 11, Vilnius). Since September 2004, the Association has been operating in Vilnius, Lithuania.
The Association was moved to Donelaičio st. 20, Kaunas, Lithuania in September 2004 (known as LIŠTIA).
On 22 November 2021, the new statutes were registered with the new name Lithuanian Thermal Engineering Association (LTERA).
The Lithuanian Thermal Engineering Association is a member of the European Federation of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Associations (REHVA).
Under the previous and current statutes, the purpose of the Association is to progress the Association’s activities by:
- To make proposals to public and private organisations on engineering development policy issues;
- to cooperate and share experience with similar organisations in other countries;
- to follow and promote world innovations in science and technology;
- to improve the qualifications of professionals and to participate in their licensing;
- Provide technical/substantive advice to enterprises, organisations;
- to carry out outsourced work for enterprises and organisations;
- participate in the development of new systems and new technologies;
- organising training, conferences, exhibitions;
- publishing a periodical and contributing articles to other publications.
Main activities of the Lithuanian Thermal Engineering Association (1999 to present):
- Certification of engineers by the Commission for the Assessment of Professional Knowledge of Managers of Heat Production and Supply, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, Refrigeration Systems. The chairman is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Juozas Gudzinskas;
- Improving the qualification of specialists (development of training programmes and organisation of training);
- Organisation of practical conferences.
In 1998 the Lithuanian Thermal Engineering Association established the magazine “Šiluminė technika”, which has been published together with the Lithuanian District Heating Association since 2001. First Editorial Board (1998): Assoc. Dr. E. Tuomas; Eng. Albinas Žeimys; Assoc. dr. Egidijus Saulius Juodis; Eng. Dr. Mironas Zakrevskij.
